Cambridge, Mass. — Pixee Medical has appointed American healthcare executive Kristoff Goson as chief executive officer as the surgical technology company looks to expand its commercial presence in the United States and accelerate global growth.

Goson spent 23 years at orthopedic device maker Zimmer Biomet, where he most recently served as global vice president and general manager. He led businesses generating more than $1 billion in annual revenue and helped scale several orthopedic technology franchises.

He also led acquisitions, including Zimmer Biomet’s purchase of sports medicine company Embody in a transaction valued at up to $275 million.

At Pixee Medical, Goson will oversee global strategy, commercial operations and the company’s expansion in the U.S. orthopedic market.

Pixee Medical develops compact augmented reality systems that provide orthopedic surgeons with real-time guidance for implant placement. The technology is designed to offer an alternative to large surgical robots without requiring significant capital equipment or limiting surgeons to a particular implant system.

The company said its technology has been used in more than 10,000 procedures across more than 20 countries. Pixee Medical recently received U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance for Knee+ NexSight, its next-generation augmented reality navigation platform.

The system is intended for use in settings ranging from major hospitals to ambulatory surgery centers.

“Enabling technologies have transformed orthopedic surgery, but access remains uneven. Surgeons and healthcare providers need solutions that improve precision without adding complexity, significant cost, long learning curves, or implant lock-in. Pixee’s personalized augmented reality platform, powered by connective intelligence, will democratize precision orthopedic surgery across care settings, including Ambulatory Surgery Centers. Because ultimately, the purpose of innovation is not the technology itself, it’s patient impact,” Goson said.

Pixee Medical founder Sébastien Henry will continue leading the development of the company’s augmented reality and artificial intelligence technologies for orthopedic surgery. Goson will focus on commercialization, strategic partnerships and international expansion.

“After clinically validating a technology now used in more than 10,000 procedures, the natural next step was to add world-class commercial leadership to scale it across the US, the world’s largest orthopedic market. Kristoff lets us do exactly that, while I focus on what I love most — pioneering the next generation of augmented reality and AI for orthopedic surgeons,” Henry said.
