CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Vyome Holdings Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on immuno-inflammatory and rare diseases, announced that its scientific co-founder and director, Dr. Shiladitya Sengupta, PhD, has been promoted to Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
The promotion recognizes Sengupta’s contributions to biomedical research, nanomedicine, bioengineering, drug delivery and translational medicine, particularly his work developing therapeutic approaches for cancer, inflammation and other medical conditions.
Sengupta joined the Harvard faculty in 2005 after completing his doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge and postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
His research has focused on understanding disease mechanisms and developing technologies that translate scientific discoveries into potential treatments. He has authored more than 100 scientific publications, including studies published in journals such as Nature and Cell.
His honors include the MIT Technology Review TR35 Innovator Award and the Era of Hope Scholar Award from the U.S. Department of Defense.
“I am deeply honored by this academic recognition. My scientific journey has been driven by a simple question: how can our understanding of biology and disease mechanisms be translated into better therapeutic approaches for patients?” Sengupta said.
“Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with exceptional scientists, clinicians, and students across several disciplines. This appointment is a recognition of that collective scientific journey and the contributions of the many people I have worked with.”
Sengupta said his involvement in establishing Vyome has been an important part of his efforts to connect scientific research with patient care.
“I continue to believe that the greatest opportunities in biotechnology lie at the intersection of strong science, interdisciplinary thinking and a deep understanding of unmet medical needs,” he said.
Venkat Nelabhotla, CEO of Vyome, said the promotion reflects Sengupta’s longstanding contributions to scientific research and therapeutic innovation.
“Dr. Sengupta’s promotion to Professor at Harvard Medical School is a wonderful recognition of his many years of scientific work and his contributions to translational medicine. I have had the privilege of working closely with him in building Vyome, and what has always impressed me is his ability to connect fundamental science with real problems that patients face,” Nelabhotla said.
He added that scientific leadership and disciplined development are essential to building a competitive biotechnology company.
Sengupta has helped shape Vyome’s research strategy through his expertise in disease biology, drug delivery, formulation technologies and translational medicine.
The company is developing treatments for conditions with limited therapeutic options. Its pipeline includes VT-1953, an investigational topical treatment for symptoms associated with malignant fungating wounds, and VT-1908, an investigational topical ophthalmic formulation of mycophenolate being studied as a potential non-steroidal treatment for anterior uveitis.
Vyome previously reported positive results from an investigator-initiated Phase 2 study of VT-1953 and published preclinical findings supporting further development of VT-1908.
The company noted that Sengupta’s academic promotion is independent of its clinical and regulatory programs. He will continue serving as co-founder and director, contributing scientific expertise to Vyome’s long-term research and development strategy.
