CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Mirai Bio has expanded its leadership team with three appointments aimed at scaling its nucleic acid delivery platform and supporting a growing number of partners developing next-generation medicines.
Kate Torchilin, Ph.D., was named Chief Executive Officer and President of Mirai Bio and CEO-Partner at Flagship Pioneering after serving as Mirai’s interim CEO since November 2025. The company also promoted Jagesh V. Shah, Ph.D., to Chief Scientific Officer and appointed Jeff Luber as Board Chair.
Mirai Bio develops an integrated delivery platform that combines proprietary in vivo data, machine learning, modular lipid nanoparticle design and manufacturability. The company said the platform is designed to improve delivery of nucleic acid medicines to cells and tissues beyond the liver.
“A promising payload can only become a viable medicine if it can reach the right destination with the performance, tolerability, and manufacturability needed for development,” said Kate Torchilin, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer and President of Mirai Bio. “Mirai is building a new model for nucleic acid medicine delivery, combining data-driven LNP design, in vivo learning, and integrated development capabilities to make delivery beyond the liver more precise, predictable, safe, and scalable.”
Torchilin brings more than 20 years of experience building life sciences businesses. She previously served as CEO of Hamilton Thorne, where she helped grow the company and led its sale to a private equity investor. Before that, she spent 13 years at Thermo Fisher Scientific, including as Division President of its Biologicals and Chemicals Division.
As Chief Scientific Officer, Jagesh V. Shah, Ph.D., will lead Mirai Bio’s scientific strategy and expansion of its delivery platform across additional cells, tissues and partner programs. He has been with Mirai since 2024 and previously held leadership roles at Sana Biotechnology and Flagship Pioneering after an academic career at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Jeff Luber, as Board Chair, will oversee strategic growth and support Mirai Bio’s financing and partnership priorities. He has previously held leadership roles at healthcare and life sciences companies including Exact Sciences, Good Start Genetics, binx health and Clairity.
“Mirai has reached an important inflection point,” Luber said. “The company has leveraged its platform to enable precise in vivo delivery targeting different cells and tissues beyond the liver, advanced multiple programs for its partners and drastically shortened development time.”
Mirai Bio said the leadership changes will support its partner-driven business model as it works to expand its lipid nanoparticle delivery platform and accelerate nucleic acid medicine programs toward clinical development.
