TAUNTON, Mass. — Zef Scientific Inc., a provider of laboratory analytical instruments and services, and Massachusetts-based Copia Scientific announced a partnership to deliver integrated laboratory automation and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC/MS) solutions aimed at improving testing efficiency and reducing equipment costs.

The collaboration combines Copia Scientific’s expertise in laboratory automation and sample preparation with Zef Scientific’s capabilities in LC/MS instrumentation, maintenance and technical support.

The companies said the partnership will help laboratories streamline workflows, increase sample processing capacity and manage operational expenses as demand for high-throughput analytical testing continues to grow.

LC/MS is an analytical technology used to identify and measure chemical compounds in complex samples. It is widely used in pharmaceutical and biotechnology research, clinical testing, toxicology, environmental monitoring and food safety analysis.

As laboratories handle larger sample volumes and more complex studies, automated sample preparation has become increasingly important for maintaining efficiency and supporting high-speed analytical instruments.

Under the partnership, Copia Scientific will provide new and refurbished laboratory automation equipment, including automated liquid handling systems, along with preventive maintenance, calibration, validation, workflow integration and method development services.

Zef Scientific will contribute refurbished LC/MS systems, technical support for instruments from multiple manufacturers, installation and operational qualification services, equipment relocation and maintenance contracts.

The combined offerings are intended to provide laboratories with alternatives to purchasing new instruments and relying exclusively on original equipment manufacturers for maintenance and technical support.

“Copia Scientific is trusted by biotechnology, pharmaceutical, CRO, and academic laboratories to deliver precision automation equipment and integrated laboratory solutions,” said Dyan Reagan, chief operating officer of Copia Scientific.

“By partnering with ZefSci, we can help customers scale and automate sample preparation to better match the capabilities of today’s high-speed LC/MS systems,” Reagan added.

The companies said their services will support pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers, contract research organizations (CROs), clinical and toxicology laboratories, environmental and food testing facilities and academic research institutions.

The partnership is also designed to help laboratories expand testing capacity while extending the useful life of existing equipment through maintenance, refurbishment and multivendor support.

“This partnership brings together complementary expertise in laboratory automation and LC/MS instrumentation and service,” said Kevork Kaladjian, president of Zef Scientific.

“Our North American customers will have access to a broader team of specialists to support their workflows, expand laboratory capacity, and manage equipment and service costs,” Kaladjian added.

The companies said the collaboration will allow customers to access a broader range of laboratory automation and analytical services, from initial sample preparation through final LC/MS analysis.

By combining equipment sourcing, workflow integration and technical support, Zef Scientific and Copia Scientific aim to help laboratories improve productivity while controlling capital expenditures and long-term operating costs.
