CVS Pharmacy celebrates new pharmacy-focused location on Warren Street in Roxbury, MA.

ROXBURY, Mass. — CVS Health has opened its first pharmacy-focused location in the Boston area, introducing a smaller neighborhood pharmacy designed to improve access to prescription medications, immunizations and other healthcare services.

The new CVS Pharmacy, located at 32 Warren Street in Roxbury, is part of the company’s nationwide initiative to expand pharmacy services through smaller locations that emphasize direct patient care rather than traditional retail operations.

CVS plans to open nearly 20 pharmacy-focused locations in select communities across the country in 2026. The stores average approximately 3,000 square feet and feature full-service pharmacies alongside a limited selection of over-the-counter products.

Customers seeking products not stocked at these locations can order them for free home delivery.

“We are reimagining how pharmacy care is delivered by creating locations designed around the needs of the communities we serve,” said Sid Tenneti, Senior Vice President and Interim President of Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness at CVS Health. “This new Roxbury pharmacy expands access to medications, immunizations and trusted pharmacist expertise, while reinforcing our commitment to helping people achieve better health in their own neighborhoods.”

The Roxbury location also provides a medication disposal bin for unused or expired prescriptions and a safe needle collection site for used sharps.

The new format is part of CVS Health’s broader effort to restructure its retail pharmacy operations and adapt to changing consumer needs and industry conditions.

CVS has already opened similar pharmacy-focused locations in Birmingham, Alabama; Chicago; Detroit; Houston; and Washington, D.C.

The company plans to open more than 40 new CVS Pharmacy locations nationwide this year, including traditional stores and pharmacies inside Target locations.

CVS continues to operate several pharmacy formats, including full-service retail stores, pharmacies within grocery and department stores, locations featuring MinuteClinic services, and facilities operating alongside Oak Street Health care centers.

According to the company’s 2025 CVS Health Rx Report, 80% of patients prefer face-to-face pharmacy care, while 48% said they would consider switching pharmacies if only digital services were available.

The report also found that 97% of pharmacy professionals consider in-person interactions essential to patient care.

“Being able to speak with a pharmacist one-on-one, having questions answered and getting advice and counsel when needed is crucial to helping patients maintain and achieve their best health,” said Marco Mares, Pharmacy Manager at CVS Pharmacy. “Our new Roxbury pharmacy is excited to welcome residents, build new relationships and serve the community’s pharmacy care needs.”

CVS said the expansion of smaller neighborhood pharmacies is intended to preserve access to essential pharmacy services while offering customers both in-person care and digital prescription delivery options.
