Boston — Biolevate has raised €30 million ($34.4 million) in Series A funding and opened a Boston office as the life sciences automation company expands internationally and scales its technology for pharmaceutical and biotech customers.

The funding round was co-led by RAISE France, the investment company of French entrepreneur Aymar Hénin, and Orange Ventures, with participation from MSD Global Health Innovation Fund, Station F and existing investor EQT Ventures.

The financing follows Biolevate’s €6 million ($6.9 million) seed round in November 2024. The company said it now has more than a dozen enterprise customers using its platform in production and has increased annual recurring revenue by 20 times over the past 12 months.

The new Boston office marks Biolevate’s expansion into the United States and gives the Paris-based company a presence in one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology hubs.

Founded by former Dataiku engineers and AI researchers, Biolevate develops an enterprise AI platform designed to automate scientific and regulatory workflows in the life sciences industry.

The company said its technology is designed to keep AI-generated outputs grounded in source evidence, allowing pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to use automation in regulated environments while maintaining human oversight.

Biolevate initially focused on regulatory approval workflows but has expanded its platform across research, clinical trials, health technology assessments, regulatory dossiers, drug discovery and drug development.

The company said its platform can run as many as 100,000 AI agents concurrently and has helped customers accelerate systematic literature reviews and research synthesis by 16 times while generating an 80% efficiency improvement in regulatory intelligence and compliance.

Since its seed round, Biolevate has established partnerships with organizations including Sanofi, NVIDIA and Microsoft. The company has doubled its workforce over the past year to 50 employees and expects to double its headcount again over the next 12 months.

Biolevate has also drafted seven patent applications across multiple therapeutic areas, with two already filed in Europe.

As part of the Series A financing, Hénin has been appointed Chairman of Biolevate’s Board of Directors. Jérôme Berger, Head of Group Strategy & Venture Capital at Orange, has also joined the Board.

“We started Biolevate with a mission-driven team united by the belief that AI could improve millions of lives if we empowered the right people and solved the right technological challenges,” Co-Founder and CEO Joël Belafa said. “Today, our vision is becoming reality. Customers are increasingly embracing AI automation at scale, grounded in evidence and under rigorous human oversight.”

Hénin said Biolevate is focused on converting the potential of AI into trusted automation that can operate at scale in regulated life sciences environments.

“The company’s rapid commercial progress, deep technological expertise and ambitious team give us strong conviction in its ability to become a global category leader,” he said.

Berger said Biolevate’s emphasis on making scientific information reliable and usable aligns with Orange’s approach to responsible AI.

“In healthcare, the value of AI depends on the trust people can place in the knowledge it produces,” Berger said.
