SAN DIEGO — Avenzo Therapeutics, Inc. announced the appointment of Connie Wedel as Chief Human Resources Officer, effective Aug. 24.
Wedel will join Avenzo’s executive leadership team as the clinical-stage biotechnology company expands its workforce and prepares to operate as a public company while advancing four clinical-stage oncology programs.
“We are entering a pivotal stage at Avenzo as we expand our team, prepare to operate as a public company, and continue to advance our four potentially differentiated, clinical-stage programs,” said Athena Countouriotis, M.D., Chair, President and CEO of Avenzo. “Connie’s experience in building HR teams and high-performance cultures will be instrumental as we continue to scale and position the company for long-term success.”
Wedel brings more than 20 years of human resources experience in the biotechnology and life sciences sectors.
Most recently, she served as Chief People Officer at Cytek Biosciences, where she oversaw global human resources, workforce strategy, total rewards, organizational design and company culture.
She previously served as Vice President, Human Resources – Americas at The Binding Site, a specialty diagnostics company acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2023. She also served as Vice President, Human Resources at Argen Corporation, a medical device and digital dental services manufacturer.

Wedel earned a B.S. in Education from the University of Iowa and an Executive Master’s in Human Resource Management from Cornell University.
