BOSTON–PureTech Health plc (LSE: PRTC) has received the 2026 Prix Galien USA Award in the Incubators, Accelerators and Equity category, recognizing the company’s approach to developing new medicines through the creation and financing of independent biotechnology businesses.

The award was presented October 29 at the 20th Annual Prix Galien USA Awards Ceremony, held at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

Boston-based PureTech was recognized for its business model, which focuses on identifying promising therapeutic candidates, reducing early development risks and establishing dedicated companies to advance drug development programs.

The company operates through a hub-and-spoke structure that combines centralized scientific expertise with independently managed biotechnology companies.

Its strategy is built around a framework known as LIFE, or Launching Innovation From Existing Pharmacology, which seeks to identify new therapeutic opportunities using established biological mechanisms and previously validated pharmacological approaches.

Once a development program reaches certain milestones, PureTech establishes a separate company with its own management team and seeks outside investment to support further research, clinical trials and commercialization.

According to PureTech, its approach has contributed to the development of three medicines approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The company also reported an 80% clinical trial success rate across its development programs.

Since 2018, businesses founded through PureTech’s model have attracted more than $4 billion in third-party financing.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from the Galien Foundation, which is a testament to the vision and dedication of our team over more than two decades,” said Robert Lyne, chief executive officer of PureTech Health.

“Our model was built on the belief that promising science deserves a path forward, even when traditional development approaches fall short. By combining our ability to unlock the potential of validated pharmacology with a model that brings together dedicated teams and external capital, we have created a portfolio spanning FDA-approved medicines, publicly traded companies, and early-stage programs. We are proud of what this approach has achieved and remain focused on translating innovative science into medicines that make a meaningful difference for patients.”

PureTech’s business model differs from traditional biotechnology development structures, in which companies typically advance multiple drug candidates within a single corporate organization.

By creating separate businesses around individual therapeutic programs or technology platforms, PureTech seeks to attract specialized management teams and external investors while maintaining a role in the development of those programs.

The approach allows newly established companies to pursue their own financing and development strategies as their experimental therapies advance through clinical testing.

The Prix Galien Awards recognize achievements in pharmaceutical research, biotechnology and medical innovation.

The awards are administered by the Galien Foundation, an international organization established to recognize scientific advances intended to improve human health.

The Prix Galien was established in Paris in 1970 by pharmacist Roland Mehl and named in honor of Galen, the ancient physician whose work influenced the development of medicine and pharmacology.

The awards program has since expanded internationally, with 18 chapters representing more than 75 countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe.

The foundation also organizes scientific forums and initiatives focused on collaboration among researchers, biotechnology companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare organizations.

The 2026 recognition adds to PureTech’s record of developing and financing biotechnology companies focused on translating scientific research into new therapeutic products.
