BOSTON — Greater Boston Urology said Akash Sharma, M.D., and Rafael Tua-Caraccia, M.D., have joined its care team, expanding access to urology and urogynecology services across the region.
Greater Boston Urology operates 10 urology care centers and two interventional radiology centers in Massachusetts. The practice is an affiliate of U.S. Urology Partners.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Akash Sharma and Dr. Rafael Tua-Caraccia to Greater Boston Urology. Their clinical expertise and commitment to patient-centered care will be a tremendous asset to our patients and care across Greater Boston,” said Jonathan S. Brajtbord, M.D., Chair of the Physician Clinical Council of Greater Boston Urology.
“Dr. Sharma and Dr. Tua-Caraccia strengthen our ability to meet patients’ needs close to home with compassionate, specialized urological and urogynecological care. We are very excited to have them join our growing group,” Brajtbord added.
Sharma, a urogynecologist, focuses on treatments aimed at improving care and quality of life for women. His clinical interests include robotic and vaginal surgery as well as neuromodulation.
He earned his undergraduate degree in Behavioral Neuroscience from Northeastern University and his medical degree in West Virginia. He later completed an OB/GYN residency and a fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery in New York.
Sharma will primarily see patients at Greater Boston Urology’s North Easton and Framingham offices.
Tua-Caraccia treats patients with benign and oncologic urologic conditions using robotic, minimally invasive and open surgical approaches.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University and his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He later completed a research fellowship and urology residency at Duke University Hospital’s Department of Urology.
Tua-Caraccia, who is fluent in Spanish and has advanced proficiency in French, will primarily see patients at the North Easton office.
