BOSTON — Foresite Labs has appointed Dr. Jorge Reis-Filho as Chief Strategy Officer and Operating Partner, while Foresite Capital has named him a Venture Partner.

Reis-Filho will join Foresite Labs’ senior leadership team and help shape company-building and portfolio strategy across artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistical genetics, data science and biology.

The company said he will also provide strategic and operational oversight for venture formation, governance, team building, financing and growth. Foresite Labs, founded in 2019, focuses on supporting entrepreneurs building companies that use AI and data science.

Reis-Filho joins from AstraZeneca, where he served as Chief of AI for Science Innovation, Enterprise AI. In that role, he led efforts to apply AI to drug discovery and clinical development, including work on foundation models and agentic frameworks.

He previously served as AstraZeneca’s Chief AI and Data Scientist for Oncology R&D and Vice President of Cancer Biomarker Development, where he led development and clinical validation of biomarkers designed to help match patients with treatments.

Before joining AstraZeneca, Reis-Filho was Chief of Experimental Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where his work focused on applying genomic technologies, big data analytics and AI to cancer research and commercial innovation.

“Jorge brings a rare combination of expertise across drug development, diagnostic and experimental pathology and artificial intelligence,” said Jim Tananbaum, Co-Founder and CEO of Foresite Labs. “He has spent his career at the forefront of translating advances in computational medicine and AI into real-world impact and validating AI platforms inside one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies.”

Reis-Filho specializes in molecular pathology, bioinformatics, functional genomics and AI. His honors include the Cancer Research UK Future Leaders Prize, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation Larry Norton Award and the William Gerald Award from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

He earned a joint medical degree from the University of Porto in Portugal and Universidade Federal do Paraná in Brazil, completed histopathology training at the University of Porto and received a Ph.D. in breast cancer molecular pathology from the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

At Foresite Capital, Reis-Filho will help source and evaluate investment opportunities and contribute to strategy and decision-making across AI-biology and the broader TechBio sector.

“My career has been driven by translating scientific insights into biomarkers, technologies and therapeutics that transform outcomes for patients, first in academic pathology and, more recently, through building AI platforms within a global biopharmaceutical company,” Reis-Filho said. “I am immensely excited to bring that experience to Foresite Labs and help build the next generation of enduring companies at the convergence of AI and the biomedical sciences.”

Foresite Labs said the appointment comes as its incubation platform continues to expand. The company co-incubated Xaira Therapeutics with ARCH Venture Partners in 2024, when the biotechnology company launched with more than $1 billion in committed capital.

Foresite Labs also cited Candid Therapeutics, which launched with $370 million to develop T-cell engager therapies for autoimmune diseases and was later acquired by UCB for $2.2 billion, as well as precision immunology company Alumis, which completed an initial public offering in 2024.
