Boston — Bruker Corporation has expanded its strategic collaboration with Atinary Technologies to further integrate laboratory automation, analytical instruments and artificial intelligence into self-driving laboratory workflows.

As part of the agreement, Bruker also made a minority investment in Atinary. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Atinary plans to integrate Chemspeed laboratory automation platforms, Bruker analytical instruments and SciY scientific software into its SDLabs platform, which uses AI agents and machine learning to design and run experiments through automated closed-loop workflows.

The companies said the approach is intended to generate reproducible, AI-ready laboratory data while allowing researchers to use automated Design-Make-Test-Analyze-Learn cycles to optimize experiments and accelerate scientific discovery.

Atinary and Chemspeed have established a joint demonstration laboratory at Chemspeed’s headquarters near Basel, Switzerland. Atinary also opened a self-driving laboratory in Boston in early 2026 focused on small-molecule synthesis and catalysis for pharmaceutical research and process development.

The Boston facility incorporates Chemspeed robotics, Bruker benchtop nuclear magnetic resonance instruments and other automation and measurement technologies.

“Cross-coupling reactions have had a significant impact on the discovery and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, as well as in other industries,” said Stephen Buchwald, Professor of Chemistry at MIT and Scientific Advisor to Atinary Technologies.

“However, the full potential of this chemistry, particularly C-N coupling, remains untapped. Large parameter spaces, combining catalysts, ligands, bases, solvents, and temperature, are complex and difficult to navigate. Generating rigorous, reproducible, lab-validated datasets could lead to significant advances,” Buchwald said.

Hermann Tribukait, Ph.D., Co-Founder and CEO of Atinary Technologies, said the company aims to combine AI and robotics to accelerate scientific discovery.

“Together with our team, ecosystem, and clients, we design and enable Self-Driving Labs as R&D flywheels, where every experiment makes the next one smarter, compounding the information from real-world lab data,” Tribukait said.

“Our strategic investment in Atinary advances Bruker’s goal to combine differentiated analytical technologies with lab automation, scientific software and AI-guided experimentation,” said Bernd Gleixner, President of the Chemspeed Division.

Gleixner said the companies plan to expand the collaboration to additional analytical technologies and customer applications.
