Waltham, Massachusetts — Wolters Kluwer Health is working with Epic to provide eligible U.S. healthcare organizations with integrated access to clinical drug information, medication intelligence and patient education resources.

The offering includes UpToDate Lexidrug, Medi-Span and UpToDate Patient Education within Epic workflows. It is aimed at organizations that often face budget and staffing constraints, including rural hospitals, Federally Qualified Health Centers, state hospitals, tribal healthcare organizations, ambulatory practices and small health systems.

Wolters Kluwer said the arrangement is designed to simplify purchasing, implementation and support while giving clinicians access to evidence-based resources used across the broader healthcare system.

“Healthcare organizations serving rural and underserved populations need access to the same evidence-based resources used across the broader healthcare ecosystem, but often face significant financial and operational barriers,” said Yaw Fellin, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Clinical Decision Support and Provider Solutions at Wolters Kluwer Health.

Fellin said Epic customers would be able to access the three clinical solutions through a simplified procurement, implementation and support model.

“The result is faster onboarding, reduced administrative complexity and a single cost center for trusted solutions to support medication safety, clinical drug decisions and patient education,” he added.

The companies said the combined offering is intended to reduce the operational burden associated with introducing third-party clinical content systems.

Because the products have already been shown to operate within Epic environments, participating healthcare organizations may be able to reduce the amount of testing and validation required compared with standalone implementations.

The streamlined deployment process is also expected to place fewer demands on internal information technology and clinical informatics teams.

“This offering is about removing friction,” Fellin said. “By simplifying purchasing, deployment, testing and maintenance, we’re helping healthcare providers focus their resources where they matter most — supporting clinicians and improving patient care.”
