WALTHAM, Mass. — GelSight has launched a new high-resolution lens family for its GelSight Modulus platform, adding lab-grade surface and profile roughness measurement capabilities to existing Modulus camera bodies.
The Waltham-based surface analysis technology company said the new 20mm optical lenses, the L2000HR straight lens and L2090HR 90-degree lens, are designed to work with the company’s current Modulus cameras. Paired with the new GelSight Mobile 4.4 software release, the lenses are intended to bring detailed surface measurement capabilities to production floors and field inspection settings without requiring users to buy a new device.
GelSight said the High Resolution lens family is more than a higher-resolution optic, describing it as a redesign of the optical, illumination and gel architecture within the Modulus platform. The company said the upgrade allows existing Modulus users to add roughness measurement capabilities with a lens swap while preserving the handheld format inspectors already use.
The Modulus platform was built as a swappable-optics system, allowing users to extend the camera’s capabilities with different lenses. GelSight said the L2000HR and L2090HR lenses offer surface roughness resolution of 0.2µm to 10µm and support the full parameter suite available in GelSight Mobile 4.4.
The company said the update adds industry-standard profile roughness parameters, including Rq, Rp, Rv, Rz, Rt, Rsk, Rku, RSm, Rc and Rmr, as well as 3D areal texture metrics including Sdq, Sdr, Sds, Ssc and Smr. GelSight said the release expands the platform from defect detection into portable, quantitative surface analysis for manufacturing and field inspection.
The L2090HR 90-degree lens is designed to support inspections in confined areas, including bores, inside diameters and complex shapes where access constraints previously required specialized tools or removal of parts for off-line analysis.
The launch comes alongside GelSight Mobile 4.4, which includes support for the new roughness parameters and additional workflow features. The software update includes guided animated calibration for Modulus sensors, enhanced offset output statistics, stacked routines in Operator mode, customizable PDF report templates and PLY file export for use with CAD and digital quality systems.
“The High Resolution lens platform reflects how fast our most innovative customers are moving. They’re solving harder measurement problems, in tighter spaces, with higher accuracy requirements, and they expect their tools to keep up,” said Youssef Benmokhtar, CEO of GelSight. “The combination of the HR lenses and GelSight Mobile 4.4 shows that the Modulus platform can evolve at the speed of their most demanding inspection missions, without asking them to start over.”
