MONTREAL — Cohere has acquired Reliant AI, a biopharma-focused artificial intelligence company with operations in Montreal and Berlin, as it expands its enterprise AI offerings for health care, life sciences and other regulated industries.

Cohere said the deal adds Reliant AI’s research team, biomedical datasets and domain-specific technology to its sovereign AI platform. The company said the acquisition will strengthen its work with health care and life sciences customers, where data privacy, security and regulatory compliance are major concerns.

Reliant AI develops tools for biopharma companies, including an intelligent research workbench used to automate literature reviews, competitive landscaping and extraction of scientific and regulatory data. The platform is also designed to help identify therapeutic precedents and model market viability.

“We’re excited to welcome the Reliant AI team to Cohere as we deepen our work across healthcare and biopharma,” said Aidan Gomez, Co-founder and CEO, Cohere. “Healthcare represents one of the most consequential opportunities for AI and it demands secure, sovereign, and domain-specific systems. Together, we will accelerate progress in healthcare, building on our shared footprint across Canada and Germany to serve these critical sectors. We look forward to bringing North for Pharma to customers and partners as a cornerstone in our expanding portfolio of industry-specific AI products.”

Cohere said Reliant AI’s technology will support the development of North for Pharma, an agentic AI system designed for biopharma teams working in research and development, clinical development and scientific analytics. North for Pharma is part of Cohere’s broader North product suite for regulated industries, including finance and telecommunications.

Reliant AI was founded in 2023 by Karl Moritz Hermann, Richard Schlegel and Marc G. Bellemare. Hermann, Reliant AI’s co-founder and CEO, will join Cohere as vice president of AI verticalizations in Berlin. Bellemare will serve as vice president of modeling from Montreal.

“Joining Cohere represents a transformative opportunity to scale our biopharma AI solutions globally while maintaining the security and sovereignty that life sciences organizations require,” said Karl Moritz Hermann, CEO of Reliant AI. “Our combined expertise will accelerate drug discovery and research innovation for customers around the world.”

Cohere said it will assume Reliant AI’s customer relationships, including GSK, Medicus Pharma and Kyowa Kirin, and continue work on ongoing engagements with major pharmaceutical companies. (Source: IANS)
