SAN DIEGO–Tandem Diabetes Care has appointed healthcare industry veteran Jeannette Bankes as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective November 16, 2026, succeeding John Sheridan, who will retire at the end of the year after more than a decade with the company.

Bankes will also join Tandem’s Board of Directors as part of a planned leadership transition. Sheridan, who has served as President and CEO since 2019, will remain an employee through December before moving into a consulting role to support the transition.

Bankes brings more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare and medical technology industries, having held senior leadership positions at GE HealthCare, Alcon, Boston Scientific and Merck.

Most recently, she served as President and Chief Executive Officer of GE HealthCare’s Patient Care Solutions business, a $3.1 billion division encompassing patient monitoring, diagnostic cardiology, maternal and infant care, and anesthesia technologies.

During her tenure at GE HealthCare, Bankes oversaw operations focused on expanding the business, improving profitability and introducing new medical technologies.

Before joining GE HealthCare, she served as Senior Vice President and President of Global Franchises at Alcon, where she was responsible for product development, portfolio management and commercialization across the company’s surgical, vision care and ocular health businesses.

Her career has included leadership responsibilities in product management, sales, marketing, clinical and regulatory strategy, medical affairs, operations and manufacturing.

Bankes holds a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from Kutztown University.

Beckie Robertson, Chair of Tandem’s Board of Directors, said Bankes was selected following a board-led succession and executive search process.

“On behalf of the Board, I thank John for his significant contributions and dedication to our customers, employees and shareholders. He established Tandem as a global leader in diabetes technology and positioned the Company for its next phase of growth,” Robertson said.

“Jeannette is the right CEO to build on this foundation. Her broad operating experience, focus on the people we serve and ability to translate innovation into impact will be critical as we seek to deliver new technology and drive profitable growth.”

Bankes will assume leadership as Tandem continues developing automated insulin delivery technologies and expanding access to its diabetes management systems.

The company’s product portfolio includes the Tandem Mobi system and the t X2 insulin pump, both of which incorporate its Control-IQ+ automated insulin delivery technology.

“Tandem’s compelling mission, differentiated portfolio and global reach create a meaningful opportunity to improve the lives of more people with diabetes,” Bankes said. “I am excited to work alongside the talented people at Tandem to build on these strengths, advance the innovation pipeline and expand access to our technology. Through disciplined execution and a continued focus on customers, we can extend Tandem’s impact and deliver lasting value for the diabetes community and shareholders.”

Sheridan joined Tandem as Chief Operating Officer in 2013 before becoming President and CEO in 2019.

During his leadership, the company expanded its automated insulin delivery portfolio, strengthened its international operations and introduced changes intended to simplify access to diabetes technology.

Sheridan said Tandem’s products currently benefit approximately 500,000 people worldwide.

“It has been a privilege to serve as Tandem’s CEO and work alongside a dedicated organization united by our mission to improve the lives of people with diabetes, including half a million people worldwide who benefit from Tandem’s technology,” Sheridan said. “Jeannette is an exceptional leader, and I am confident that she and the Tandem team have the capability, passion and commitment to guide the Company into its next chapter.”

In connection with Bankes’ appointment, Tandem’s Board approved an equity incentive award consisting of restricted stock units valued at up to $10 million.

The award is scheduled to be granted December 15, 2026, with one-third of the shares vesting after the first year and the remaining two-thirds vesting in eight equal quarterly installments.

The equity grant is intended in part to compensate Bankes for unvested stock awards forfeited upon leaving her previous employer.

Tandem said the award will be issued outside its existing long-term incentive plan under Nasdaq rules governing employment inducement grants. Additional details are expected to be disclosed in the company’s 2027 proxy statement.

Headquartered in San Diego, Tandem Diabetes Care develops and manufactures automated insulin delivery systems designed to help people with diabetes manage their blood glucose levels.

The leadership change comes as the company continues investing in new insulin delivery technologies, expanding its international presence and pursuing long-term profitability.
