Waltham, Mass. — Lumicell said adoption of its LumiSystem® intraoperative imaging platform is expanding as the company increases commercial deployment across the U.S. breast lumpectomy market, including implementation at a leading cancer center.

LumiSystem is designed for use during breast-conserving surgery to help surgeons detect suspected residual cancer in the lumpectomy cavity before the operation is completed.

Unlike specimen-based approaches that examine tissue after removal, the system evaluates the surgical cavity directly and identifies areas where residual disease may remain, allowing additional tissue to potentially be removed during the same procedure.

Lumicell said the technology is becoming increasingly relevant as breast cancer treatment moves toward more personalized and de-escalated approaches, placing greater importance on achieving complete tumor removal during the initial surgery.

Real-world data have also supported the use of cavity-based imaging, including findings presented at the American Society of Breast Surgeons Annual Meeting from a Stanford Health study evaluating pegulicianine fluorescence-guided assessment of lumpectomy cavities.

“Commercial expansion is about more than broader availability. It is about supporting surgeons with real-time information when it matters most, before the patient leaves the OR,” said Marnie Curbow, Chief Commercial Officer of Lumicell.

“As breast cancer treatment becomes more personalized, Lumicell is focused on helping advance breast-conserving surgery with technology designed to detect residual cancer within the lumpectomy cavity during the index procedure. We believe our continued expansion into leading cancer institutions helps accelerate awareness of innovative surgical technologies and expand patient access.”

Lumicell said expanding LumiSystem adoption remains a key part of its 2026 strategy, along with revenue growth and broader patient access.
