BETHESDA, Md. — Precision for Medicine has appointed Amanda Owens as General Manager of Biospecimen Solutions, where she will lead the business unit’s commercial and operational strategy.
Owens joins the company as biopharmaceutical research increasingly relies on deeply characterized biospecimens containing genetic and molecular data to support drug discovery and development.
She brings experience across biospecimen services, genomics, gene editing and advanced therapies, as well as a background in building commercial organizations and expanding strategic partnerships. Owens previously held senior commercial leadership roles at Landmark Bio and Discovery Life Sciences.
“As biopharma shifts toward increasingly complex modalities, access to fully characterized biological samples has become a strategic imperative,” said Sofia Baig, President of Precision for Medicine.
Baig said Precision for Medicine maintains biorepositories containing more than one million biofluid specimens and three million tissue specimens. She added that combining those samples with molecular characterization can help drug developers identify appropriate specimens and accelerate research programs.
Owens said one of the industry’s main challenges is matching the right biospecimen to each research program as scientific requirements evolve.
“Matching the right biospecimen to the right project at the right time is one of the central challenges in our industry,” Owens said. She added that Precision for Medicine’s laboratory capabilities allow the company to provide additional biological characterization beyond specimen sourcing.
Owens holds an MBA from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a master’s degree in Biological Anthropology and a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Alabama. She is based in Nashville, Tennessee.
