SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Genentech said it plans to invest about $750 million in a new device fill-finish manufacturing facility at its 75-acre campus in Hillsboro, Oregon, expanding its U.S. manufacturing capacity and supporting its future medicine pipeline.

The new facility will roughly double the size of the existing Hillsboro operation and add end-to-end device filling capabilities. Genentech said the project is expected to create about 250 manufacturing jobs and support approximately 200 construction jobs, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2031.

The facility will manufacture advanced drug delivery devices, including pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors, which can allow patients to receive treatments more conveniently outside hospital settings.

Genentech said the site will be designed to handle both high- and low-volume device filling across a range of products, giving the company greater flexibility as its portfolio and manufacturing needs change.

The investment follows the recent topping out of Genentech’s new manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, and is part of Roche and Genentech’s broader effort to expand U.S. manufacturing and research and development capabilities.

Established in 2006, Genentech’s Hillsboro campus supports manufacturing across therapeutic areas including oncology, immunology and neurology. The expansion will add device filling capabilities and strengthen the company’s domestic manufacturing supply chain.

“We are proud to make this significant new investment in Hillsboro, building on nearly two decades of Genentech manufacturing in Oregon,” said Ashley Magargee, CEO of Genentech. “By adding end-to-end filling capabilities, this expansion deepens our commitment to manufacturing in the U.S. and gives us the flexibility to support a growing pipeline.”

Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek said the investment reflects the state’s strength in advanced manufacturing and life sciences and will create new high-paying jobs.

Hillsboro Mayor Beach Pace said the expansion will build on Genentech’s nearly 20-year presence in the city while supporting continued growth of the region’s biotechnology industry.

Roche and Genentech currently operate 13 manufacturing sites and 15 research and development sites in the United States, with about 25,000 employees across 24 locations in eight states.
