Cambridge, Mass. — Iterative Health, a healthcare technology and services company focused on accelerating clinical research, has appointed Dr. Samin K. Sharma of The Mount Sinai Hospital as a scientific advisor and honorary chair of interventional cardiology.
Dr. Sharma is Director of the Cardiovascular Clinical Institute at The Mount Sinai Hospital. In his new role with Iterative Health, he will provide clinical and scientific guidance as the company expands its cardiology research strategy.
“Dr. Sharma is a world-renowned physician recognized for his clinical judgment, commitment to patient-centered care, and contributions to the field,” said Jonathan Ng, Founder and CEO of Iterative Health. “His experience will help strengthen our therapeutic expertise, protocol and trial design, and scientific publications, ultimately helping our sites move studies forward with the excellence and rigor sponsors expect.”
Dr. Sharma is Director of the S.P. and Seema Lohia Cardiovascular Clinical Institute and Director of Interventional Cardiology at Mount Sinai Health System. He also serves as President of the Mount Sinai Heart Network.
With more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Sharma has contributed extensively to interventional cardiology and is credited with pioneering use of the Rotablator technique for treating complex, calcified coronary blockages. He has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed articles and serves on the editorial boards of several cardiology journals.
He is also active in medical education, mentoring fellows and practicing cardiologists through symposiums, educational programs and live-broadcast procedures.
“There’s a real gap between what a trial protocol asks for and what’s actually workable at the bedside, and it can cost a study valuable time,” Dr. Sharma said. “Iterative Health has built a research network around closing that gap, and it’s an honor to help the company strengthen its impact in advancing cardiology research.”
The appointment comes as Iterative Health expands its U.S. cardiology research operations. The company recently acquired established cardiology research sites from NextStage Clinical Research and entered into a strategic partnership with US Heart & Vascular.
Iterative Health said its research network now includes more than 100 sites across three continents, supporting studies in gastroenterology, hepatology, obesity and cardiology.
