BOSTON–WHOOP has appointed board-certified cardiologist and digital health leader Dr. Ami Bhatt as Chief Medical Officer as the company expands its presence in consumer health and regulated healthcare.

Bhatt will help shape WHOOP’s consumer health strategy and bring together the company’s growing portfolio of health-focused products and services. Her appointment is intended to strengthen the clinical relevance and credibility of WHOOP’s technology as the wearable company moves beyond human performance tracking into broader health applications.

In the near term, Bhatt will focus on improving WHOOP’s ability to help members understand and optimize their health. The company said its longer-term goal is to establish WHOOP as a connection between everyday health monitoring and clinical care.

“We’re entering a new era where every person can have a continuous 24/7 understanding of their health,” said Will Ahmed, Founder and CEO of WHOOP. “The companies that define this era will combine world-class technology with deep clinical credibility. Dr. Bhatt has helped shape the future of digital medicine, and her leadership will help accelerate the next chapter for WHOOP.”

Bhatt brings more than 20 years of experience in cardiology, clinical care and medical leadership. She previously served as the inaugural Chair of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Digital Health Advisory Committee, where she contributed to discussions about the evaluation and clinical use of artificial intelligence and other digital health technologies.

She also served as Chief Innovation Officer of the American College of Cardiology and Director of Outpatient and Telecardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Bhatt earned her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine and her undergraduate degree from Harvard University.

“I believe the first mile of healthcare begins in people’s everyday lives, well before they enter a clinic,” Bhatt said. “By combining the ongoing view of physiology provided by WHOOP with clinical judgment and the responsible use of AI, we can give people greater agency in their health and clinicians a richer picture over time. I have spent my career focused on delivering high-quality care to people where they are. WHOOP has been building toward that same vision, and now we have the opportunity to build it together.”

The appointment follows WHOOP’s introduction of additional health services, including Advanced Labs clinician-reviewed blood testing and electronic health record integration. The company also plans to offer clinician consultations through its app.

WHOOP said Bhatt’s appointment represents a significant step in its effort to develop into a broader consumer health platform while supporting its stated mission of adding one billion healthy years to people’s lives.
